OrcaFlex User Group 2006

This year the OrcaFlex User Group visited the traditional venues of Aberdeen, Houston, Paris and Stavanger. In addition we also covered new ground by visiting Rio and Perth. The demand for these meetings seems high so we plan to return to each of these venues in 2007. We will publish details for the 2007 meetings, in due course, on the main user group meeting page.

As always it was good to see old friends and lots of new ones too. We are also regularly surprised at the innovative way you the users are using the software. We hope that we surprised you in turn with the many improvements to the software this year!

The presentations made at the meetings are available for download.

The feedback response was excellent again with most people handing or posting their forms to us. Thank you. Your thoughts and ideas are always welcome (at any time!) and always noted. The comments have been constructive and informative. We have updated the development plans accordingly.

The feedback in brief:

  • Attendees still found the day very informative and useful, overall attendees were happy with the format and style.
  • The presentation explaining the recent developments in OrcaFlex and future development was again well received. Many of the new features were a direct result of requests from previous user group meetings.
  • The hints and tips were as popular as ever for both new and experienced users. There were many requests to expand this section. Remember to look out for more hints in our newsletters.
  • The Time Integration Scheme presentation went down well, it being an issue that affects all users. We hope you were impressed and it will give you the performance you’ve hoped for.
  • The more specialist presentations on seabed stability and vessel motion were informative for users with interests in installation and mooring. We hope the topics were also enlightening for other attendees of what they may need to consider in the future.

In previous years we have received requests for presentations from other users on OrcaFlex. This year we included these on the day. We felt that they were very successful and we hope to repeat this for 2007. Thank you to our six guest speakers: John Shanks (RiserTec), Antonio Fernandes (University of Rio de Janeiro), Caspar Heyl (FMC Sofec), Arne Skeie (Acergy), Hayden Marcollo (AMOG) and Chris Turner (AMOG).

We ended up with a very large list of future software developments. These have now been added to our development list. For information, short and medium term development plans for OrcaFlex can be found on the OrcaFlex Support page.
