OrcaFlex User Group 2005
This year the OrcaFlex User Group visited Aberdeen, Houston and Paris. It was nice to see old friends and lots of new ones too. Some of us managed to squeeze in a visit to the Space Centre before the Houston User Group meeting so it wasn’t all work. The Paris venue was new and we'll be back there in 2006. Planned venues for 2006 can be found on the main user group meeting page.
The presentations made at the meetings are available for download.
The feedback response was excellent with most people handing or posting their forms to us. Thank you. Your thoughts and ideas are always welcome (at any time!) and always noted. The comments were both constructive and informative.
We retained the meeting format used in 2004, keeping time available for individual discussions as well as formal presentations. This still seems the favoured style from comments given. Again this resulted in full notebooks of your comments.
The feedback in brief:
- Attendees still found the day very informative and useful. The presentation explaining the recent developments in OrcaFlex and future development was again well received. Many of the new features were a direct result of requests from the previous user group meetings. The shaded graphics and new solid shapes proved particularly popular.
- The hints and tips were as popular as ever for both new and experienced users. There were many requests to expand this section. Remember to look out for more hints in our newsletters.
- The VIV presentation gave a taster to those just venturing into this area. We can deliver advanced training courses on this topic if there is a demand so please let us know.
- Complex clashing showed some more unusual applications of the facility. The stinger and arch models were especially popular. Some examples were from other OrcaFlex users. Thank you to Wellstream and LMC for permission to show these.
- Wings got a big response from the floor and feedback indicates this could also generate an advanced training course if required.
- The discretisation and convergence presentation could have filled an afternoon on its own but we just managed to squeeze it into its allotted time. Remember we are happy to have follow-up questions on this one because it was such a big topic. Feel free to contact us with questions on the other presentations too.
- Again requests were made for presentations from other users on OrcaFlex. We hope to provide these for 2006.
- We ended up with a very large list of requested software developments. These have now been added to our internal development list. For information, short and medium term development plans for OrcaFlex can be found on the OrcaFlex Support page.
We will be holding another series of User Group Meetings in the autumn of 2006 and full details of these meetings will be posted on the main user group meeting page later in the year.
