Local licenses |
Unlike floating licenses, local licenses (also known as node-locked licenses) may only be used on the machine on which they have been activated. You would usually activate your local license on the machine on which your Orcina software (such as OrcaFlex) is installed. Setup requirements are minimal in this case, you simply need to have the licensing service and OrcaLicense (local edition) installed and running to be able to activate and use a license.
| Note: | Local licenses cannot be used on server editions of Windows. If you need to run Orcina software on a server edition of Windows you must use a floating license. |
The licensing service acts as an intermediary between your Orcina software and your licenses in trusted storage, allowing the software to check a license out when it runs and back in again when it closes. On a 64-bit system, both 32-bit and 64-bit services are required.
Any Orcina software which offers FlexNet licensing will give you the option to set up this service when you install the software. An installer for the service is also available in the FlexNet local setup download on the FlexNet license support page of our website: run either the 32-bit or the 64-bit installer, whichever is appropriate for your system. If you already run other (non-Orcina) software which makes use of FlexNet licensing you should still carry out this install procedure, in order to register your Orcina software with the service and to ensure that it is sufficiently up to date.
Each local license is node-locked to the specific machine on which it is activated. It can only be activated on a single machine at a time, and can only be used on the machine on which it is activated. You can, however, easily transfer a license between machines, for example from a desktop to a laptop for travel purposes and back again afterwards, or from an office machine to a home machine and vice versa.
To transfer a local license, you first need to deactivate it on the machine where it is active. Obviously, you must be certain that no-one is using it on that machine at the time. Having done so, the license becomes available again, on the central Flexera database, for activation on another machine (or re-activation on the original machine if you change your mind).
When you come to activate the license again, you will need to supply the activation ID. If you don't already have a record of it (for instance in an email from Orcina granting you the license) you should take note of it before you deactivate it on the first machine – you can copy it directly from the diagnostic information report.
