Connecting objects

Child objects (e.g. lines, links, etc.) can be connected to parent objects using the mouse in a 3D view. First, click on the child connection that you want to use. Then hold down the CTRL key while clicking on the parent object – the two will then be connected together. This operation is only permitted for parent/child object pairs, for example connecting a line to a vessel. The connection is indicated in the status bar and is drawn in the colour of the parent object to show the connection.

To free a child – i.e. to disconnect it – select it and then CTRL+click on the sea surface.

To connect to a fixed point, select the connection and then CTRL+click on the global axes.

To connect an object to an anchor (a fixed point with a coordinate relative to the seabed), select it and then CTRL+click on the seabed grid. If the object is close to the seabed then it snaps onto the seabed. This allows an object to be placed exactly on the seabed. If you require an anchor coordinate close to, but not on the seabed, connect the object to the seabed at a distance and then drag it nearer or edit its coordinate in the object data form.
