Line with floats: Data |
To generate data for a single line type combining the properties of the base line type and the floats, the line type wizard requires you to specify the existing underlying base line type, onto which the floats will be added, and various properties of the floats. The data required by the wizard are:
The line type on which the floats are mounted.
The outside diameter of each float. It must be larger than the outside diameter of the base line type.
The axial length of each float.
The average distance between the centres of adjacent floats.
The density of the material forming the floats, excluding additional items such as fixing material.
The extra mass due to the addition of the floats, over and above that due to their material density. This accounts for items such as the clamping/fixing mechanisms.
The drag coefficient associated with the float for flow normal to the line.
The drag coefficient associated with the float, due to the projected annulus area of the end of the float, for flow along the axis of the line.
The drag coefficient associated with the float, due to the floats' skin friction, for flow along the axis of the line.
The added mass coefficient for flow normal to the line.
The added mass coefficient for flow along the axis of the line.
